Red headed Woodpecker and Skink Peace Card
This series of greeting cards comes from images in my Field Journal, “Bearing Witness,” in which I have recorded the flora and fauna I see around me, whether that be on my walks around Albemarle County, Virginia, or trips to England to visit my son who is studying archeology at the University of York, or trips to my family’s cottage in Central Wisconsin. I note the common and Latin names of the bird, plant, bug, or animal I’ve drawn, whether it’s native or invasive, some tidbits about the species, and sometimes a note on the weather. In addition to the watercolor portraits, I have inserted bits of the news chronicling the attacks on our fragile democracy since Trump took office in January 2025. This volume will cover Jan. 2025 to Jan 2026, at which point I’ll begin another volume. I am hoping to find a way to publish “Bearing Witness” as a book, but I will also make giclee signed and numbered prints of each of the pages.
In the interest of space and peace of mind, I have erased the news bits from the greeting cards. Each one simply says “Peace” on the inside.
